"Heather, honey, telephone. It's some guy who says he needs to talk to you," Peggy said as she shook me awake. I was still in Heather's room, in Heather's life, and in Heather's body.
I turned away from my roommate, and mumbled, "Who is it?" I probably wouldn't know who it was anyway, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.
"May I ask who's calling?" I heard her ask into the phone. She waited a few minutes and then said to me, "He says his name is Alex and that you would know who it is."
My eyes snapped open. Would Heather call home? I sat up and snatched the phone from a very surprised Peggy.
"I guess he must be important; I want details when you're done," she said as she headed for the door. She walked out and closed it behind her.
"Hello?" I asked.
"God, it's good to hear my own voice again! I was beginning to miss it," my own unmistakable deep voice came from the other end.
"Heather?" I asked.
"Yeah, you know, when I actually imagined talking to you on the phone, this wasn't what I had in mind."
"I'm sure. Do you have any idea how this happened?"
"Not a clue," she answered, "you?"
"No, have you talked to anyone yet? Did you have to perform last night?"
"Yes and no. The guys just think you have partial amnesia. I tell ya, Nick's much better looking in person. I could jump him."
My eyes widened. "No! There will be NO jumping! Not in my body anyway!" I was ladies' man and I had to protect my reputation, plus Nick would think I was crazy.
"Don't worry I won't jump until I get my body back. What about you, have you met the girls yet?"
I smiled and leaned against the picture covered wall. It was rather interesting to look over my shoulder and see myself holding a microphone and wearing a black hat. "Yuh huh. They're all rather nice, especially Sandee, now that's what I call a vision."
"Ooooh," she sounded like she was smiling. "I knew you'd like her if you saw her."
"So, should we tell them?" I asked. "You could put Howie on the phone, or I could get Sandee, maybe they could find some way to fix this..."
Heather's end was quiet for a few minutes then she answered, "Well, how do you think this happened? All I know is that I was standing on a chair putting up a picture of you...oops...I mean...oh well...and then my foot slipped and I landed headfirst on the edge of the chair. I blacked-out and the next thing I knew I was you."
"That sounds a lot like what happened to me. We were rehearsing the chair routine, I was doing real well, adding my own spin to it, " I smiled. I prided myself on being a great dancer. "When I tripped on Nick's big foot and hit my head on the sharp edge of the chair. I blacked-out then I woke up as you."
"It could have something to do with our birthday," Heather suggested. "What time were you born?"
"Three oh six p.m., and the funny thing is that's when I hit my head."
Her voice grew excited, "You're kidding?! I was born at 3:08 p.m. and that's when I hit my head!"
"Now we're getting somewhere," I commented.
"True, you know, I think we're going to be each other for a while. Maybe we shouldn't try to tell them yet. Knowing Sandee and Peggy, they would think I was crazy. Amy and Kasey might believe it but I don't think I want to try," Heather said.
"Yeah, Rok and Kaos would probably believe me, but D and Train would never buy it. They'd think I was some crazed fan," I stopped a minute, "no offense."
"None taken. So basically we're going to pretend we're each other."
"Basically, at least until you get back to Florida. Maybe then we can try to convince them...besides it might be fun being someone else for a change." I said.
"Yeah, and when I get to Florida I can drive the Expedition!" I could hear her grinning.
"Don't touch the truck," I said darkly.
"Oh come on! Where am I now anyway?"
"Manchester, England. You'll be coming home in two weeks. Now I think you know the words, go ahead and sing, but please try not to dance. I've got a reputation to uphold, " I begged.
"England, huh? That's not too bad, but two weeks? Oh God! Look I won't get to see everyone for two weeks!" I never knew my voice could hit such a high pitch.
Eventually Heather calmed down. "Oh and be careful with the sunglasses," I continued.
"Yes, Your Greatness. Look, my name's AJ and I'm just a little conceited."
"Well, I've never had to tell someone how to be me before. So what do I need to do?"
"Well, let me think," she began, "don't get too freaked out when the other girls start dog piling you. Also I'm an art major, so please try not to draw too much. I like to think I'm pretty good."
"Now who's conceited?" I interrupted.
She apparently brushed it off and continued, "Oh and you might want to be careful next week."
"Why?" I asked cautiously.
"Let's just say that it's my, or rather your," she giggled, "time of the month."
"Time of the month?! What do you mean, 'Time of the month?!?!" I sat straight up. It couldn't be.
"Yeah it's the little female thing."
"Oh no," I groaned as Heather explained to me what I was supposed to do. I couldn't believe this. This was so embarassing.
"You got it?" she asked when she finised her explaination.
"Yeah," I answered. Quickly wanting to change the subject, I asked, "Are you going to be okay tonight?"
"Yeah, I think so. The guys think you have partial amnesia, so they won't expect much."
"Okay," I said my nervousness showing through my voice. "Break a leg tonight, and good luck in every other area of my life. If you need help call. If I need help I'll call my cellphone. Oh and don't touch the car, or Nick."
"You worry too much. Good luck to you too, and try not to get to flirty with Sandee. She'd think I'd have gone off the deep end. Well I've got to go rehearse so everyone will think they're watching da' Bone tonight. Bye!"
"Buh bye." We hung up and I prayed that Heather wouldn't mess up too much.
